26 arrested for indiscrimimately firing toy guns in public

The Ghana Police Service has arrested 26 persons for brandishing and firing toy guns indiscriminately in a public space.

The law enforcement agency, in a statement, revealed that the suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and will be arraigned in court to face justice.

The statement added that a quantity of toy guns have been retrieved from the suspects as evidence during the ongoing probe into this growing trend in parts of the country.

As part of efforts to curb the menace, police said special operations are underway to apprehend others engaged in similar activities.

The police further cautioned the public, particularly the youth, “to desist from this act as it constitutes the offence of offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace contrary to section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) amongst others”.

The police also assured citizens of their commitment to maintaining law and order, stating, “We will do all that it takes for our beloved country to continue to be at peace with herself”.
