We won’t shield officers involved in electoral malpractice – EC

The Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of Corporate Services, Dr Bossman Asare has reiterated the commission’s commitment to ensuring free and fair elections in this year’s election.

Addressing the press on September 2, 2024, Dr. Asare firmly noted that the commission will not shield any electoral officer who engages in malpractice during the December 7 elections.

“The commission will like to assure the public that it will not shield any of its officers both permanent and temporary found complicit and any electoral malpractices and would allow such persons to face the full rigorous of the law,” he noted.

The EC’s assurance comes in response to several concerns raised by political parties, including the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The opposition NDC has raised several concerns about the EC’s ability to organise elections free of partiality.

However, Mr Asare assured that the EC has Ghana’s best interests at heart and would in no way undermine the peace of the country before, during and after the election.
