Ghana-Angola game will be a good promotion of African Football- Pedro Goncalves
Head coach of Angola’s National Men’s Football Team, Pedro Soares Goncalves, believes that Ghana’s game against his team will be a good showcase of African football.
Ghana’s Black Stars take on Angola in a 2025 AFCON qualifier in Group F at the Baba Yara Stadium at 16:00 GMT on Thursday, September 5.
Goncalves said this in his pre-game presser after the 2023 AFCON quarterfinalists touched down in Kumasi ahead of the first game in the two legged qualifier.
“For sure, both teams have very good players with good moments so I feel [the match] will be a good promotion of African football.”
Ghana beat Angola 1-0 in Kumasi in March 2023 via an Antoine Semenyo late goal and drew 1-1 in Luanda in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers with both nations qualifying to compete in the championship.
Angola made it to the quarterfinals but lost 1-0 to eventual finalists Nigeria but Ghana failed to win a game and crashed out at the group stage.
The Black Stars have since recovered to beat Mali and Central African Republic in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June.
