One victim has been confirmed dead and several properties were destroyed in a devastating fire at Atonsu Bokuro in the Asokwa Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The fire reportedly started around 8 am on Monday, November 18, 2024, while the victim, a 17-year-old boy was asleep.
The blaze also spread through nine rooms in the house, reducing several items to ashes.
According to the Asokwa Municipal Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), access to the building posed significant challenges for the rescue team.
However, he said the team was able to control the fire from spreading to nearby houses.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was transported to the morgue by officers of the Ghana Police.
This comes after two children were burned to death in a fire outbreak in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern region in May 2024.
The deceased were identified as 6-year-old Clement Adjei and 4-year-old Desmond Adjei Karikari, both pupils of Ridge Experimental Basic School.
Information gathered indicated that their mother, Bernice Agyei Karikari, also got severely injured, while properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis were destroyed.
The two children, who were part of a five-member family, were asleep in a three-bedroom house when the unfortunate incident happened.
According to an eyewitness, he saw the ravaging inferno from the roof of the building and rushed to call the occupants.
They struggled for some time before unlocking their door to rescue them.
However, he couldn’t return to rescue the two children trapped in the room.
