The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akufo Dampare has held talks with the leadership of Kumasi Asante Kotoko in relation to Sunday’s ill-fated Ghana Premier League match at Nsoatreman F.C.
In the company of other top brass officials of the Ghana Police Service, Dampare met with Kontomponiaferihene Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua I, chairman of Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee.
Kotoko’s head of sporting affairs and leader of delegation for Sunday’s match, Kwasi Appiah, was also part of the meeting.
JoySports sources say Tuesday’s meeting was not part of the Police investigations into the murder of Francis Frimpong, the Kotoko fan who was fatally stabbed during Sunday’s league match between the club and Nsoatreman F.C.

Before meeting Kotoko, the IGP personally reached out to the family of the deceased to extend the Police Service’s condolences. He assured them of a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.
So far, the police has arrested three suspects; former employment and labor relations minister, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Agyemang Duah Owusu and Kyeremeh Joseph.
During a search of suspect Agyemang Duah Owusu’s residence, police discovered two dresses with suspected bloodstains and an MP 23 pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.
The findings have raised further concerns about the escalation of violence at football matches.
Kotoko lost by a goal to nil, in a match that has since been marred by violent clashes that claimed the life of Francis Frimpong, a fan of the club.
Frimpong was stabbed by a yet-to-be-identified individual, moments after he had ducked a missile, reportedly thrown by another fan of Nsoatreman F.C.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has charged ten players for the respective roles in the brawl that ensued on the pitch.
Six of them; Stephen Diyou sent off during the match for fighting Frank Dongballe,Abdul Rahaman Mohammed, Walid Neymar Fuseini, Mohammed Issaka and Eric Osei Bonsu, are from Nsoatreman.
