Tidal waves force Volta Region residents to exhume bodies

Residents of Salakope and Agavadzi in the Volta Region are facing a heartbreaking ordeal after powerful tidal waves swept through their communities, destroying cemeteries and forcing them to exhume the bodies of their loved ones.

The disaster, which began about a week ago, has left homes submerged, properties destroyed, and livelihoods severely impacted.

Frustrated residents lament the recurring nature of the crisis, which continues to displace families and erode their sense of security.

A visit to the affected areas revealed a distressing scene as families worked desperately to recover remains from washed-out graves.

Many also fear an impending health crisis as some residents, left with no alternative, continue to use contaminated seawater for daily household activities.

With the situation worsening, residents are making urgent appeals to the government and benevolent individuals for immediate intervention and support.
