NPP’s National chairman steps down temporarily

The family of the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Ayensu Ntim, has officially informed the party of his decision to stay away from all party duties on health grounds.

The family, in a letter dated June 16, 2025, formally requested that the party executives allow him to step away from all party duties, describing his medical conditions as involving “cognitive dissonance and mental incapacitation”.

The letter is signed by family members, including Kingsley Oteng (the family head) and Adelaide Ntim (the MP for Nsuta/Kwaman Beposo).

The letter clearly explained the reasons for the family’s opposition to Ntim participating in any political engagements, including a scheduled meeting of the party’s leadership at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, scheduled for today, Tuesday, June 17, 2025, which he was expected to chair.

Family members warn that any such participation would not only endanger his health but also infringe on his well-being and rights.

“Common sense dictates that Steve, as a matter of urgency, be temporarily excused, not only from the rigours of active politics, but from intra-party activities, in order to make way for needed peace and solace and for concentration on the ongoing required medical treatment process,” excerpts of the letter from the family noted.

Meanwhile, the NPP has yet to issue an official response to the family’s letter.
