Maxwell Kofi Jumah, who previously served as the Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, has been arrested by national security agents for alleged financial misconduct during his tenure in office.
Reports indicate that Mr. Jumah was taken into custody on Sunday, 29th June, in Kumasi.
His arrest followed a formal request from security personnel, who transported him in a pick-up truck to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, where he is currently detained.
This arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into financial irregularities, including the questionable disposal of company assets and disputed vehicle purchases believed to have taken place during his leadership at the state-owned distillery.
Earlier, on May 15, 2025, attempts were made by security officials to recover government vehicles allegedly kept by Mr. Jumah after leaving his position; however, he was reportedly not on the premises at that time.
Sources close to the situation reveal that this arrest is part of a wider inquiry into potential violations of public financial management regulations, with investigators looking to understand how various official resources were managed during his tenure.
Though no formal charges have been filed at this time, it is anticipated that legal action will proceed following the completion of preliminary investigations.
