The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Darkoa Newman has expressed enthusiasm for the passage of the Affirmative Action and Equity Act, as she says it has come at the right time.

According to the Minister, this act is not in any way going to give women privilege but says it will protect the women population from becoming vulnerable.

The Minister, who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei South Constituency, was speaking during the minister’s press briefing to update Ghanaians on the School Feeding Program and Affirmative Action Gender Equity Act 2024 held at the Ministry of Information in Accra.

Darkoa Newman commended the President of Ghana and the male Members of Parliament for their unending support in seeing this bill passed, citing their efforts have made this bill see the light of the day but says, the bill is in a waiting process before the president will append his signature to it.

She noted that women in Ghana are very qualified to hold high positions and believes this act will now give them equal opportunities at various leadership positions.

Darkoa also revealed that, in as much as the act has other punitive actions against those who flout the law, it has amazing benefits for companies and individuals who will recruit more women into their firms and take up high decision-making positions therefore encouraging all to support.
