Joana Gyan Cudjoe has announced her intention to contest in the Amenfi Central parliamentary primaries rerun following the nullification of the earlier election by the Functional Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In the earlier parliamentary primary conducted in Amenfi Central on May 13, 2023, Joana Gyan Cudjoe emerged victorious with 756 votes, beating incumbent MP, Peter Yaw Kwakye Ackah, who followed closely with 575 votes.
However, five contestants later sued the winner Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the NDC, and the Electoral Commission, citing that the winner forged her voter ID and NDC party card.
This pushed the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to release a statement on September 5, 2024, announcing the decision to annul the elections.
A few hours later, Joana Gyan released a statement acknowledging the decision by the leadership of the NDC and announced her readiness to contest in the rerun.
She believes the rerun will offer a “renewed opportunity to come together and build a stronger Amenfi Central Constituency”.
She assured members of the National Democratic Congress and the people of Amenfi Central of her commitment to her progress, development, and empowerment.
Nominations for interested applicants, begin today, Friday, September 6.
Meanwhile, voting is expected to take place on Sunday, September 8, 2024.
The latest twist is barely a week before parliamentary and presidential aspirants file their nominations for the December 7 election in line with directives by the Electoral Commission (EC).
