Fatal accident on Accra–Kumasi Highway claims several lives

A devastating head-on crash involving a VIP bus and a cargo truck has resulted in multiple fatalities and left many passengers hospitalised on the Accra–Kumasi Highway.
The tragic incident took place on Wednesday, June 25, near Oframase, close to Nkawkaw in the Kwahu West Municipality.
Reports indicate that the VIP bus, with the registration number GR-2399, collided with an oncoming cargo truck loaded with flour.
The force of the collision has led to several deaths, with some bodies described as severely disfigured.
Emergency responders, including teams from the Ghana Police Service’s Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD) and the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), arrived quickly at the scene. Both vehicles have been removed to restore traffic on the busy highway.
Many of the injured have been taken to the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital and other local health centres for treatment.
Meanwhile, authorities are yet to release an official death toll, citing the condition of the bodies as a challenge to accurate identification and counting.
While the exact cause of the collision is still under investigation, several road users have blamed the deteriorating state of the highway for the recent accidents.
