Military officer dead, five others injured in horrific accident

A dreadful accident has claimed the life of one military officer belonging to the 11 Mechanised Battalion in Bawku, while five others are in critical condition.

The fatal accident occurred on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, when the soldiers were returning to their camp after providing an escort for a government official.

The unfortunate incident occurred around Binduri in the Upper East Region.

According to eyewitness accounts, the military vehicle, with registration number 15 GA 04, was travelling from Bawku towards Bazua when it abruptly veered off the road and somersaulted multiple times.

The violent crash resulted in the immediate death of one officer, while five others sustained severe injuries.

The injured officers were quickly transported to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital and the Tamale Teaching Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces is yet to release an official statement on the death of the military officer.

This follows the fatal accident, which claimed thirteen lives on the Kumasi-Obuasi Highway in the Ashanti Region on Monday, October 14.

Reports on the accident suggest that a VIP bus with registration number ER 2445-11 was travelling from Kumasi to Enchi in the Western North Region when it veered off the road at the dawn of the aforementioned date.

According to sources, the bus was overloaded with stranded passengers from another bus that had broken down on the same stretch.

The sources alleged that an argument between the passengers and the driver over the overloading distracted him, causing the accident.

The injured were conveyed to a nearby hospital for treatment while the dead bodies were deposited at the morgue.

The deceased were seven males, five females, and a child.
