NPP refers Abronye DC to disciplinary committee

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken action against its Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, by referring him to the party’s disciplinary committee.

This decision comes in response to what the party has described as “unguarded public comments” and a violation of directives set forth by the National Council.

A statement from the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, confirmed the referral on Tuesday, 24 June 2025, following a National Steering Committee meeting.

While the specifics of the allegations were not disclosed, it was clear that Abronye’s actions clashed with internal guidelines intended to promote unity ahead of the party’s forthcoming presidential primaries.

The statement asserted, “In line with the party’s constitutional processes, the Bono Regional Chairman has been referred to the Disciplinary Committee for breaching directives of the National Council and making unguarded public comments”.

This referral comes at an important time for the NPP as it strives to maintain internal harmony leading up to the flagbearer elections, slated for 31 January 2026.

In a bid to strengthen discipline and unity, the party has also mandated the immediate end of all unauthorised caucuses and meetings involving current or former executives and presidential candidates.

“The Party wishes to once again remind members of their constitutional obligation to protect party unity, to abide by and publicly support the Party’s decisions,” the statement emphasised.

Furthermore, the NPP has called upon all declared presidential aspirants to convene for a joint meeting with the National Steering Committee and the National Council of Elders on 3 July 2025.

This gathering aims to address “matters of mutual interest” and to promote a competitive yet orderly internal campaign.

Key flagbearer hopefuls expected to attend include former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Abetifi MP Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and former Essikado-Ketan MP Joe Ghartey.

The NPP’s robust approach to maintaining internal discipline and cohesion highlights its commitment to preventing divisions as it gears up for its presidential primary in January 2026, leading into the 2028 general elections.
