A bus belonging to OA Transport Services, travelling from Accra to Techiman, unexpectedly caught fire near Nsawam, a town along the Accra-Kumasi highway on Sunday, November 10, 2024.
The incident stranded passengers and increased frustrations about the transport company’s response, particularly regarding the potential loss of personal belongings.
Report indicates that the bus, which left Accra around 9 p.m., was carrying many passengers on an overnight journey towards Techiman in the Bono East region.
Although the event was frightening, no casualties have been reported since all passengers successfully evacuated the vehicle.
Following the incident, OA Transport Services arranged for an alternative vehicle to transport the stranded passengers to their final destination in Techiman, minimizing the disruption’s impact.
Despite efforts to address the situation, passengers have voiced growing frustration over the company’s management of the aftermath, particularly regarding their claims of insufficient communication and support concerning potential losses from the fire.
This comes after a bus belonging to Intercity STC Coaches Limited also caught fire around the Asafo Interchange in Kumasi later last year.
In that case, it was reported that the bus was transporting passengers from Accra to Kumasi when the incident occurred.
It was revealed that there were only 12 people on board the vehicle when the incident occurred since the majority of the passengers had alighted.
