The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with the death of Eric Obeng Darko, the former Headmaster of Dampong Senior High School.
The suspects, 38-year-old Mubarak Mohammed and 48-year-old Prophetess Elizabeth Darkwah, were arrested on June 9 and 17, respectively.
They were arraigned before the district courts in Kodie and Suame and have been remanded into police custody.
According to police investigations, the incident traces back to 2024 when Prophetess Darkwah allegedly took money from Mr. Darko, promising to help him retrieve a hidden family treasure.
She later visited his home at Bampenase near Mamponteng with Mubarak Mohammed, where they dug up 20 pieces of yellowish material, claiming it was ancient gold that needed purification at her church.
However, the prophetess reportedly avoided all efforts by Mr. Darko to meet for the purification. Investigators say she later conspired with Mohammed and three others, who are currently on the run, to abduct and kill the victim before he could arrive at her church.
Mr. Darko was taken to Aboabugya, and during an attempt to escape, he was allegedly run over by a Honda Odyssey driven by Mubarak Mohammed.
Police are continuing their efforts to arrest the remaining suspects.
Meanwhile, the two in custody are expected to reappear before the court on July 4, 2025.
A police source said, “We are committed to getting justice for the victim and bringing everyone involved to book”.
