The Minister of Internal Affairs of Sierra Leone, Major General David Taluvu (rtd), has commended the Ghana Police Service for transforming policing in Africa.
He acknowledged the Service’s innovative leadership and practical approaches, which have set a high standard for other African countries to follow which his country Sierra Leone is willing to learn from. Â
Speaking at the Police headquarters in Accra on Monday, August 12, 2024, Minister Taluvu expressed admiration for the Ghana Police Service’s successful transformation from a force to a service-oriented institution. He noted that the Service has effectively integrated itself into the community, earning recognition across the continent.
The Sierra Leonean delegation, comprising senior police officers, including IGP William Fayia Sellu and Deputy Minister of Justice Alpha Sesay, visited Ghana to learn from their counterparts. They aimed to compare notes and gain insights from the Ghana Police Service’s innovative strategies.
Ghana’s IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, on his part, welcomed the delegation and emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration on the continent. He highlighted initiatives like “Snatch Them Young Policing,” intelligence-led operations, and enhanced visibility, which have contributed to the Service’s success.
IGP Dampare reiterated the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to winning the hearts and minds of the people by serving them with dedication and professionalism.
