UCC confers Doctor of Laws on Asantehene

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has honoured Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II with a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa during a special congregation.

The award is in recognition of his distinguished statesmanship, contribution to education in Ghana, purveyor of traditional jurisprudence, advocate of the rule of law, promoter of peace and stability, visionary and generational thinker, entrepreneur, guardian of culture, and role model.

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) explained that the honour conferred on the Asantehene was also in recognition of his meritorious and distinguished service to the nation of Ghana.

The glamorous ceremony was held on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the New Examination Centre (NEC) of the university in the Central Region.

In attendance were eminent Asante traditional authorities, the Oguaamanhen, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, the Queen, Nana Ekua Abookye VI, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, Francis Asenso Boakye, the Minister of Roads and Highways, Sir Sam Jonah, the Chancellor of the UCC, Prof Johnson Nyarko Boampong, the Vice Chancellor of UCC, Prof Rita Akosua Dickson, the Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, Manish Gupta and others.
