Gov’t to Compile and Publish list of Public Lands Soon – Jinapor

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has announced the government’s intention to compile and publish a comprehensive list of all public lands in the country.

Briefing the press in Accra on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, the Minister explained that, the initiative is part of the government’s efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of national assets.

Mr. Jinapor reiterated that, the initiative is a testament to the Akufo-Addo administration’s commitment to protecting public lands from encroachment and misuse.

“The Akufo-Addo government has been unwavering in its resolve to protect public lands. We are not only committed to preserving these lands but also to ensuring that the public is fully informed about their status. This is why we are in the process of compiling and publishing a detailed list of all public lands across the country,” he said.

This announcement follows recent allegations by North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who has accused the government of state capture and the unlawful transfer of public lands to private entities. These claims have sparked public concern, prompting demands for greater transparency in the management of state-owned lands.

In response to the allegations, Jinapor firmly denied them, calling the accusations baseless and politically driven. He emphasized that all transactions involving public lands have been carried out with the utmost transparency, in full compliance with the law, and with the nation’s best interests in mind.

He stated that the government is nearing the completion of an audit of all public lands to ensure that none have been improperly acquired or misappropriated. Upon completion, the full list of public lands, along with details of any related transactions, will be made publicly available.

“The publication of this list will not only enhance transparency but also build public confidence in the management of our national assets. We are determined to show that this government has nothing to hide and that all public lands are being managed for the benefit of the people of Ghana,” Jinapor concluded.

He assured the public that all state-controlled lands are secure and emphasized that the government has been diligent in protecting these valuable assets.
